I have used the HANS for 2 years- felt terrible at the first race- after that I sure like it better than a collar- best of all, it made my wife feel better! Can't help you on the other model- sorry.

I use the Hans and the collar a little tight but good. I can't say about the other but I bet both are better than not using one.

I was going to reply until I saw DT did. I didn't want to get my info in the way of you and him working something out. But since you asked about both, I posted anyway.

I have an R3. I like it and it is comfortable. One of the things I like about it is the support goes clear down your back. It fits between the seat and your back. This would have to give you more support to hold your helmet/neck in line with your spline.

    Jeff,

I use the HANS and really like it. I'm not sure how comfortable the other would be between your back and the seat. Either takes a little getting used to I'm sure, but the quick disconnects on the HANS make it easier to get your helmet off in or out of the car.

Its My Feeling That Anyone Driving A Race Car Over 100 Mph Should Be Wearing A Hans Device!! It Should Be Madatory In All Racing Sanctions, It Does And Will Save Lives, We Should Always Be Thinking Safty!! If You Arent, That Is When Some One Will Be Hurt!! So We All Should Be Wearing Them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been using a HANS all year. had no problem getting out the roof hatch. I do recommend the quick release though. I don't think I could get it off in the car with out it.PS it does take a little getting used to, but so did the neck collar all those years ago!

so with the quick disconnects, you take it off before you go out the hatch?

    Hans

no, I come out with helmet and HANS on. The problem is if I don't want to get out, like towing to the scales, it's difficult to get my hands to manipulate the tab on the helmet. The quick release is pulled from the front, then I can get the helmet off in the car

They claim it will be SFI certified for 2006, it is about half the cost of the others. Just some food for thought!

Just returned fron the IHRA banquet where Dr. Hubbard who developed the HANS device and Tom Gideon, General Motors Motorsports Safety Manager gave a racer seminar on HANS and seatbelts. After seeing in car photos of crashes and how the head responded to them and also sled tests with crash dummies, only foolish racers would run without one. They should be mandatory by both sanctioning bodies. There may be other types on the market but none has the development time and testing that has gone into the HANS. Not a good place to use a cheaper product.
