What brand of data loggers does everyone like to use for blown alcohol setup?
What does everyone like to get data on/or record?

 

I agree with mike but one thing to take into consideration is FuelTech and Holley systems now. Seems to be everyone has made the change to coil near plug. Once you do that you don't need a racepack system. FuelTech does everything racepack does. Also it's added weight to carry 2 data loggers and all their wires to support each. If you plan on running a mag forever then racepak is only way. But if for some reason your thinking about coils then bite the bullet now and just do it. FuelTech support is amazing.

 

What are people doing these days to measure actual "delivered" ignition timing advance, or is this not being done? I'm not talking what was commanded, but rather what was actually caused.

 

I've had great success with RPM Performance. 4 years of pretty heavy use on their DL20 system in an outlaw promod with a full array of sensors, including shock travel. Added their dash 2 years ago, was easy to add and program. I don't think i've lacked any data with their offering--and have received great support from Randy, including weekend calls. Even was able to diagnose a grid issue by watching their tach input. Been very impressed with their product.

 

One of the things about Data Loggers is the dashes they use. Most are hard to read at best. The RPM Performance one doesn't seem too bad.

Or am I being petty?

 

Absolutely agree with Mike: the dash is an easy reference tool to be used when doing pit troubleshooting, before and after run, and possibly right before staging. I use it mostly during warmup to check pressures and egts. I have it programmed to flash if either oil psi or fuel psi drops below some value (like 15).

The idea of looking down to check anything during a 6 second run is not realistic, even on the most sunday drive rail-guided type of run. Eyes need to be outside the car looking downtrack.

 

That's very true. I guess its me just getting old. Just use to looking at gauges. Need to retrain myself. The RPM dash is the only one I have ever been around. Not as a racer but, on the starting line looking in the dragster adjusting fuel flow at idle. Was easy for me to read.
Do you still use RPM or have you changed to something else?

 

I do currently use my RPM Tech setup. No reason to change. In fact, i have a Racepak v300sd "spare" system sitting in my trailer (acquired with a different chassis purchase). My preference for RPM Tech is simply that it works great and does exactly what i need.

 

Used Computech, Racepak V300 and FuelTech FT550. Food for thought on this is Computech is great and customer service is awesome, Matt is always there and helps all the time, harder to hook up and used tho, not as user friendly as others. FT550 is nice and there customer service is awesome as well. Met them at PRI and love their product, lot more to hooking them up and programming tho. Racepak is the industry standard as I was told and the easiest to hook up and use by far compared to the others I mentioned. Customer service not as good to use as Holley now owns them and getting thru is a lot different compared to them in the past. Being that a lot of people use them it is easier to get the info you need on them. I really like the V300 system, I think in the near future FuelTech will be coming on Strong IMOP.
