Hi Jonny, we only run alcohol but I boil that & water out of our synthetic oil (Fuchs Pro Race R 15-50) in a 20l stainless cook pot, no more than half full, with a camping stove. I keep checking the temperature with a laser thermometer. You can see it stop at the methanol boiling point of 64C, I then turn the gas down, once the methanol has gone the temperature rises quickly to 100C where the water boils out. I then keep checking it because once the water is gone temp rises again & it's best not to go over 120-130C or the oil starts to burn. Apparently nitro-methane has a boiling point of 100C so it should work for you. Obviously this is all potentially hazardous as the vapour could catch fire & set the oil on fire but it's been ok for a season so far. A catering style electric water heater would be a safer option.

Jonny - We use a Burco 30L water boiler to get the methanol out of our oil. They're thermostatically controlled but only go up to 98C, so might not boil all the Nitro out. After a few years work, the methanol eats the rubber seal so you have to replace the element and seal. Boiler is about 100 GBP and the replacement element is about 45 GBP.

Johnny, we just put ours in 5 gal buckets, about 3/4 full. Keep it in a warm place and it separates over time. We use Amalie 70 wt and run 90% plus nitro. Works great. If you use a light colored bucket you can see the nitro go to the bottom.

I use an old ceramic style crock pot. Only does 5 qts at a time...but easy to handle. And safe.

I use a crock pot also. New about $20.00 and temp peaks at 225 F.

For Alky I use a decent quality single electric burner and stock pot outside, heat it until it starts bubbling hard and then back the temp down to a nice simmer for a couple of hours until the bubbles quit.

A little better option that I use is an electric roaster pan--the kind that you see at family reunions. They can be had at estate auctions for $5 to $20, are thermostatically controlled and can do 4 to 5 gallons at a pop. They have a nice lid that is vented. I use a meat style thermometer through the vent to monitor the temp and adjust the thermostat accordingly (once you set it on a batch, not normally have to adjust for subsequent batches). JW
