Powerglide rating

Hi folks
Just joined up & this is my first post. Last season we were running a 565ci BBC n/a in an altered, ran 8.8s then we put nitrous on & ran 8.3s. We were going to fit a methanol injection system for this season. However we had the oil pickup fall off on a run & totally trashed the short block. I just bought a second hand but rebuilt blown motor off some reputable racers for around the same cost as a fully dressed new shortblock. It has a lot of good stuff in it. Its 570ci & it has a Littlefield 10/71 blower with a carbon T/F style hat. I don't know much about the cam & heads at the moment but I can find out. We need to replace our stock case, stock gears Powerglide with a proper aftermarket case one that can take the power. My question is how high a rating should I be looking at? We are looking to run into the low 8s, high 7s initially, perhaps 7.5 or lower when we get some experience.

HP ratings on transmissions can be misleading. For what you are doing a PG with a good aftermarket case preferably a Reid, an aftermarket straight cut planetary and a ringless input should be fine.

I run FTI transmissions and converters exclusively with great success as do many high horsepower cars. If you give them a call they will know exactly what you need.

 

Thanks, I did notice on Summit that FTI seem to be a bit cheaper than some others so I am definitely considering them.
