I'm helping a buddy put together a blown bbc 8-71 hh, 581" big m, dart pro 1 355 heads. Looking to make 1500ish hp.

The question I have is how tough is a 7/16 stud mounted rocker setup with girdles? It's what he has now and it's making me nervous.

I've done some reading where people have had problems with the studs working themselves around in the head, has anyone here had this happen? At what rpm/spring pressure/ lift/...........does this happen?

I had a 526 Dynoed 1700 with dart 360 turned it 8200 with no problems using Crower stainless rockers , about .800 .820 lift 350lb on the seat. this was in 99 and 2000 , his problem will be to big cid and not enough blower

I know it's unnecessarily big but it will do what he wants, I tried to talk him into the 528 combo...

He has good rockers and a really nice girdle setup but we haven't nailed down cam and spring yet,. Found a good deal on a used nitrous cam that should be great but it's .850 int and .810 exh. Just makes me worry but I have a tendency to want to overbuild.

The first year I ran T/D, I had stud rockers and girdles. Cam was .850/.830. I have since upgraded to crower shafts, but never had any issues with them.

584 14-71, .850, 286/312, 8000 rpm 15-1750 hp. NO GIRDLE ever for ~2.5 years. Harland Sharps, 250 on the seat, 3/8 .083 pushrods. No valvetrain problems ever..... until I built a smaller shortblock. Then the valvetrain fell apart.

Ran .1 slower at the same OD. The much higher boost number that resulted from the smaller cubic inch just made it really unhappy so I switched to shafts.

540 BBC; 14-71 HH at 45%; Brodix BB-2X worked; Crane 1.7's with Brodix girdle; Comp roller lifters; Trend pushrods; Lunati 800-ish cam--tractor pull application 8-8200 RPM for 12-15 seconds (not like a drag race run)--never had a stud pull. Other issues but studs weren't one of them, for what it is worth. And actually ran two identical motors in two vehicles--minirods (2050 pounds). For what it is worth! JW
