Usually that is correct unless the cap or rotor is cracked. Do you have a crank trigger then if so is the rotor phasing correct. Is there any relationship to timing changes and when breaking up occurs?

Yes I have a crank trigger can that be bad? I also thought they also either "work or don't" I think I may of found a issue when having the truck rewired the wire from the back of the cylinder heads to the negative side of coil I had him put a quick dis connect after looking at it its WAY small, possibly a bad cylinder head ground. To back this up after looking at new wires they have burns in the boots where they are sparking out through them.

Remember, any burnt (tracked) wire must be replaced.

Are you using a cross over switch on the crank trigger. If so try it straight on the trigger without it. Also make sure the crank trigger wire runs away from the coil wire and as many other cables as possible. You should be running a .043-.050" air gap on the trigger. A zip tie makes a perfect feeler gauge

To answer your question, yes the generator could go bad. Even if it isn't the problem, it could damn sure be weak or out of internal phase to do loose/bad bearings on the shaft. I would send it to Bob Wyman at System 1 Pro Ignition, regardless for a tune-up.

Triggers can be bad. I haven't tried this, but someone told me the ohms change if you check it out of the bracket and if you check it bolted to the bracket. I have also seen a trigger ohm perfect, but it was definitely the culprit of symptoms you described above. If you haven't changed triggers, it is the most likely part I would change.

Not to hijack a thread but is lahey done with msd, or is he just not doing what he says he is. He was once the only person to fix msd, mag and 44 amp parts. Now seems like no one is using him. Did I miss something.

As far as I am concerned there are only two trusted Promag 44 techs and that is Leahy at Electrimotion and Bob Wyman at System One. Both will do it right and yes Leahy is still fixing mags

The mag can't only fire in six cylinders it has to be the cap or the wires. The mag just fires and keeps on firing. Doesn't know how many cylinders or cylinder number
