As the NHRA tour heads into viva Las Vegas for this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip, ITA gives you the odds on who's hot this weekend.

    TAD

    1. Steve Federlin - A touch of altitude should make the Pomona winner a favorite again.

    2. Hillary Will - Big time Bucky Austin horsepower should put the Girl Power team close to the top of the pack.

    3. Ashley Force - Due to 417 preseason test runs at this facility, should run strong this weekend.

    4. Aaron Olivarez - Tuner Jim Rizzoli has tested several times this year at this track, has been the picture of consistency all year.

    5. Duane Shields - Much to the rest of the field's dismay, it appears Steve Boggs and Dana Hopewell are getting a handle on the 98% deal after Houston win. Would love to double down in his home town.

    6. Chris Demke - Ran very strong a few weeks ago in Tucson, would surprise nobody to see the Peen-Rite team in the late rounds.

    7. Joey Severance - Always runs strong, should be able to mix it up in Vegas and make a few rounds.

    8. Bob Perkins - "Blown Chances" team has made some respectable showings of late, our TAD 'Dark Horse' pick of the week.

    TAFC

    1. Jay Payne - The Valvoline Thunderslug is overdue for a win this year, look for them to be very strong this weekend.

    2. Cy Chesterman - The defending Champ always runs strong in Vegas, should be a late round player as usual.

    3. Larry Miner - Torco Race Fuels team always runs strong, should mix it up with the top runners in Vegas.

    4. Bucky Austin - With Aerosmith's 'Back in the Saddle Again' playing in the background, the look for the Northwest Hitter to be swinging for the knockout with his new Hadman mount in Vegas.

    5. Tate Branch - Usually runs strong at this track, should go a few rounds.

    6. Steve Gasparrelli - Miner Bros. powered machine has ran strong of late, can certainly run with anyone when this team is on.

    7. Mark Woznichak - Always right there with the leaders, look for the same out of the 'Woz' in Vegas.

    8. Gary Scelzi - If he can get back used to shifting, look for the former Top Fuel champ to make a splash in Bob Devour's mount. This team looked very strong in Phoenix with Kirk Kuhns behind the wheel, our TAFC 'Dark Horse' pick of the week.

With all the good cars making the trip, I would agree with Will's picks. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor and Clint Thompson mix it up in TAFC as well.

I'll go with Ben Harper in TAD.

For TAFC I have to give respect to Gary S.

Will, There is one sure thing in TAFC. For the first time this season it will not be a Division 1 car who wins a national event. Manzo, Pomona; Newberry, Gainesville; Ray, Houston.

But a lot of people out West probably still think Manzo has it easy in D1. Jump on in, the water is fine.

I love those Div one fields that have 10 5.90 cars and better at all the races. ;) ;)
I will say this tho, Div one is getting tougher every year. It ranks as the #3 toughest TAFC division out there, tied with Div. 4,5,6 Only Div 2 is really weak now. Div 7 and then Div 3 are probably the toughest.

All 7 divisions have tough cars. A well kmown TAFC racer who calls Div. 3 home may have said it best yet, his thoughts were, "On the Divisional level Div. 7 is the toughest to qualify in but Div. 1 is the toughest to win in." (unless your name is Manzo.) his logic "In D1 you usually get Newberry or Manzo in the semi final and if you get by that then the other one is waiting for you in the final." That really made sense to me.

I don't think Manzo has it easy here in the land of NED It's just that he is the most consistently dominant, works very hard to stay ahead, has adequate funding and tons of experience, and he rarely makes mistakes or beats himself. But this is a good topic for another thread if Mr. Hanna will permit it.
