Putting a Blown KB in our Spitzer...Room for a tank is going to be tight. Can it hang over the frame any at all or does it have to stay inside the rails?

pretty sure it has to stay inside the rails. Not sure if it is really a rule or not but I had a buddy that ran TAD with his KB olds and they would always hassle him about it so he switched over to a wet sump. When he switched to the new car he put the fuel tank up front which opened up room for the oil tank, but he never switched back to the dry sump.

    Dry sump on a Dragster

:cool:We run a Dry sump in our dragster designed it with Moroso. Has to mount and all peices under shoulder hoop. Ours works awesome no bearing problems and has improved our bearing life and oil life. If you want more info feel free to contact me. We went through the hole gamit with NHRA and what returns oil the best.

We have been running a dry sump system for over 12 years, the only way to go in my mind. I had my most recent tank done by Brent at Spitzers, it is a NICE piece and conforms to the back of the seat/down the deflector plate. I've also spoken with Scott @ Moroso, which is who designed Jonathan's (guy above me.....hi Jon) and they have a good system going too. The location of the pickup is also important, Moroso makes the best pan in my mind. We couldn't fit a regular dry sump (System1, Plueger, etc) within out frame (most dragsters can't). We would have had to modify the panels so we use an R&R Dry Sump Pump; it's externally belt driven. I prefer this method that way if you happen to snap the shaft on the mag drive (you cut mag drive shaft down with ext. pump) you won't lose oil psi. and hurt the motor. Mike @ R&R is a great guy to deal with, www.rrconnectingrods.com, check them out.

Any pics on what style or shape? The sprinters are now using a small diameter maybe 8" that could fit somewhere.

Hey guys, hate to bring up an old thread but looking for some advice. I'm in the process of putting a kb Hemi in my '08 272" spitzer. I have a 3 gal dry sump tank but room is very tight. I'm thinking the 6qt tank Moroso offers might fit but may not give me the oil capacity I need. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Switch to wet sump, easier to package and with enough oil in the pan 15-16 quarts you'll have no bearing issues. I ran my main bearings for two years with a wet sump in a MBR Hemi. 15 qts of 60 to 70 weight valvoline including one quart of Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. 6 qts is not enough oil.

I would recommend a wet sump as well. I would also recommend closer to 18-20 qts for 1/4 mile application. The hemi doesn't drain back oil very well. Norm Drazy said they call them oil returns on a hemi because it returns oil on the return road. Don't worry about if it's above the baffle, it won't be as soon as it starts up.
