what are your thoughts on flexplates? apparently my CSR flexplate needs to be replaced. I have found my crank missing the dowel pin and the crank bolts have eggshaped my flexplate. Does anyone have a recommendation for a flexplate? 526 BBC 14-71 high helix top sportsman car with a 3 spd lenco drive. Coan converter. I know there is a lot of talke on starter motors also. I have burned up probably 3 CSR starters running 24 volts. in September I switched to a Tilton and had it in and out a whole bunch of times cuz it never wanted to mesh properly. any thoughts to the lightweight Meziere flext plates? are they any good for my combination? is it worth it to spend the money for a matching starter/flexplate? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

First question/concern for you is why you lost the dowel pin....
As for flexplates / starters, in the long run, Meziere stuff is the way to go, period.

Have used Meziere, Reactor and DMPE. The DMPE is the lightest and all good but if you have a lot of power they in time they will all crack and some will egg shape the holes.

When you do have to change cranks, get a hemi 8 bolt flange and it will stop 90% of your problems. The meziere products have all worked good for us too-and have run 12 volt CSR and 12 volt Meziere starters on 24 volts with no problems for several years now-THANKS! Jim and hope this helps!

Would not recommend the Reactor, they told me my 2 pass old unit would not recert because it was more than 3 years past the recert date but tried very hard to sell me a new one. Apparently sitting on a shelf while I build my car makes parts go bad... Also had a friend who's unit spit off a section of the teeth after 8 runs and starter clearance was all properly measured. I have also been told CSR or Meziere are awesome. The DMPE units are nice though the original ones were prone to cracking. I have been told by DMPE that this is fixed now but have not verified the new ones through racers yet. Ditto what Jim said, if it isn't 8 bolt get the 8 bolt crank ASAP.

Well, anything like a blower bag or seat belts are date stamped and are going to expire regardless if they were sitting in a closet not being used. Yes, the DMPE cracking was fixed some time ago. Any of them can break off the starter ring and that why the SFI enforcement of the bellhousing inner shield to be all the way forward to the mid plate.
