Ok guys we run Top Dragster. We are thinking about upgrading to a 14-71 from a 8-71. What is more consitsent blower case a meg or alum. case/Billit. We run an Alum case right now and the motor is very consitstent to the .01 and even to the .001s but dont want to lose that consistency. When switching to a 14-71. Yes I can make changes to the fuel system but I want the blower to be consistent as well. Also whats the pros and cons on them to.
Thanks for your input as well.

If you bang the blower the Mag case will show it more than an aluminum case. Now the billet case won't make you any more HP provided all measurments are the same. But if you bang a billet case it won't crack like the cast cases. Is it worth the extra money for the billet case? Who knows. If you don't have tuning issues and run a burst panel probably not worth the extra cost.

We have a burst pannel and also no tunning issuses. iv never seen anyone bang the blower in top dragster. not saying its never happended but iv never seen it. we are also running a chevy 540. we went 6.43 at 208 with our 8-71. Right now our case is cast. but iv been looking at used blowers that are Meg. are they going to be consistent like my 8

The aluminum is going to move around less and they are much better if you are going to have inlet mods and such done. The difference between a cast and billet case on a top notch (1 of the three competitive companies) was only a half lb of boost and that was at mid to high rpm only. The reason is because the billet case is little stiffer and more consistent than a cast unit. A $20,000 billet unit is absolutely not needed for top dragster, I cannot speak for the blower shop billet units as I have not witnessed them on any competitive blown alcohol cars. Depending on your motor you can run 6 flat with a cast case, billet Kobelco rotored Littlefield, Kobelco non superman, or SSI D rotor for $3,000-$4,000. The last car I tuned on was old and heavy and still went 6.20's with a 540 cid New century 23 degree headed BBC w/ an old wore in Littlefield w/ K-8 rotors in some hot and humid Georgia weather w/ no fuel management and I hadn't even balanced out the cylinders yet. With a good car you can run 5.80\5.90s w/ a Kobelco non superman k-8 and a 464 cid fathead 5 hemi. At top dragster you should never bang that blower unless something crazy happens with parts breakage in the motor, at worst it may spit off the belt or pop the panel. Hope that helps out, -Trevor Sherwood
