I will be buying a new crank. The Bryant one I have at the minute had some small cracks on the radius of the thrust journal.
What is the recommendation in using a repaired crank , as a spare.
What is the cost "likely" to be , and what experience does anyone have with repaired cranks.

I will be buying Bryant again by the way.

    Thanks Wayne

I would be doubtful about running a cracked / repaired crank. The repair may cost may be only a few hundred dollars but the long term cost could be a block, rods, pistons, cam, head damage, etc. Just my .02

    Thank you for your reply.
I asked the question only because I see and hear people using repaired cranks.
I have not had a crank that needed repairing before now .

First off you really can't repair a crack. In most instances the crack is trying to work it's way from a main journal to a rod journal. In some instances you can turn a crank below a crack, but they usually come back in the same spot. Not to mention you have to be damn careful not to get bearings mixed up.

If it's not cracked or bent really bad, a reputable repair facility (stress on reputable) can repair a damaged journal. Lance Flanakin, Marine Crank, Winberg and Bryant are generally the 'accepted' repair facilities. Crankshaft Specialties in Tennessee are to be avoided at all costs. "Chrome a Crack" as they have been called. Also heard bad stories about LA Chrome.

Don't know who is reputable across the pond.
