Any ideas or insights on heads and crank stroke? I know I am not the first to try this and have been reading threads on this but I haven't seen anything concerning stroke. I greatly appriciate anyone's thoughts or ideas not looking to rotate the world just build a stout motor that will make good power with longevity being key. Thank you.

I am by far no expert on this subject.... but, I ran a TFX 96 4.310 bore with both a 4.25 and now a 4.5 crank with Veney fuel heads. Strong off the line, blew tires off, I had to pull a lot of timing to get it to hook and then once the RPMs were up, the heads were out of air. I sidelined that motor and went with a big bore 4.467 x 4.150 stroke and will have that going soon (might test down south this winter if I can get my act together). I sold the Veney heads and scored a set of BAE 6 heads, I will keep the 4.310 bore and 4.5 stroke TFX motor as a spare. Several have told me this combo would run good (not like the big bore, but light years ahead of the fuel head). Sorry I don't have more definite info, but everyone I have talked to liked BAE 5 and up on any alky motor.

My TFX has the smaller OD fuel sleeves (I am not sure what you have, the AJPE catalog has all the part numbers and ODs listed). I think I am about as big of a bore that I can go with that block unless I spend some serious cash. I am sure there are many here that know how feasible/expensive it would be to go to the larger diameter sleeves, then you could go with big bore stuff that is popular right now.

    Hope this helps a little.....

    Scott,
Thank you very much for the info yes the sleeves I have now are 4.187. This gives me some good ideas on stuff to look for in the head and crank side of things. Do you run a clutch or converter drive? Thank you once again!

My sleeves start out life as the 4.187 as well, I have them bored to 4.310, the "small" od is 4.490, forgot that part on the previous post. Some of the newer 4.187 sleeves are the larger diameter, if yours are the larger, you could go more than 4.310

just have the block bored for the right size sleeve
most good shops can do this
when you bore the small sleeve out it, the cly wont stay round walls get to thin
call AJ and get the block dimensions big bore, small bore and register

X2 on having the block rebored to use the correct sleeves. Well worth the money to rebore the block versus using too thin of a wall sleeve or not having enough piston OD for your application. Bore the block. Send it to BAE to have it bored and buy their sleeves. Problem solved.

If I have small sleeves, what are we talking to send to BAE for bore and sleeves?

I am not sure how much it would cost but they have repaired some blocks for me before as a reasonable price. To re-bore the block and new sleeves is probably not as much as you might think. A call to them on Tuesday would answer that question.
