    I know this isn't what the thread is about, but Bob, could you share with me your rear wheel/tire combo that "worked" with your FED? Im struggling here, first FED I have built. Ive got the FC and RED thing "down". This thing is "different! But FUN! I PROMISE to pull my cam card when I get to the shop! Thanks, Tim On your FED, did you run a Converter behind a Blown Alky BBC? Im running a 3.90 rear gear and 1.56 low Bruno/Lenco 2-spd

    That car had the M&H spec tire with liners, and a 3 disc Crowerglide, and a 4.10 gear. Was a buddies bracket motor with my 6/71 on it. Not overly powerful, did manage to run mid 7's. I have driven alot of cars over the years, front motored, rear motored, altereds etc., but that particular car was the snakiest evil handling thing I've ever crawled down in. Not enough pipe in it.

    blower

    spend as much money as you can on the blower. a good blower will pick you up more than anything else you can bolt to it.

    X3, under one condition. You must have the right parts and pieces in your engine to withstand the power that a top notch blower will make. I know that goes without saying, but figured I'd say it anyways.

    Thank you all for your input.
    I contacted 5 different manufacturers, Littlefield and DMPE are the only ones that have returned contact at this time. Darren was very helpful.

    She is a nice piece. The spark plugs are still in the wrong place, but what would you expect of a guy that grew up with Hemi's.

    compression ratio and fuel capacity

    I would say also giving the info you have shared about your current blower you will need to be aware of some things if you change to the newer style blowers.
    1. fuel pump size
    2. compression ratio
    3. The fuel that you will need to put in the back of the blower is another area that important.
    Many things will change for you! "Buying a good blower" and "Keeping it a good blower" are 2 different things.

    I haven't had my hands on a roots blower since the mid ninties. Just trying to learn all I can now, so that when I do pull the trigger, I don't have buyers remorse.

    When I was racing IHRA TAFC we HAD to run Roots blowers. One of the BEST I had was a DMPE Modified Kobelco K-11. The early M5 (literally one of the first, if not the first) utilizing the Kobelco case made a TON of power but the case cracked everywhere, think these are Billet now? I also had a PSI I really liked cuz the strips lasted FOREVER! The Kobelco we re-stripped after EVERY race...but competition was TOUGH and had to stay on top of your game!

    The PSI roots blowers give good boost at high ODs and talking about 40% or more but they are heavy. You are lucky that the stripes lasted. A big complaint from most is that they don't last. I understand that Norm Drazy is back at PSI and correcting some of the problems. As far as the DMPE roots, the days of the cracks are gone. Those cracks were only on the first generation.

    Weight is another concern for me. I have lost 20lbs personally, since I last had the car out. And removing or cutting on what I can this winter. I was at 2020lbs. Rulebook calls for an 1850 min.

    I have no over drive limitations, have a bird bolt pattern hat, an adapter to go from bird injector to buzzard opening blower, and an RCD belt guard. Any of that can be replaced if the need arises. Would need some amount of spacer to get the hat up over cage. Strait up, or one that moves the hat forward?


    I will be shopping on the experienced side. Give me your top 5 list, 1 being your first choice, to keep my eyes open for.

    PSI fits in near the top just not sure where.

    Usually it is around 12,000 rpm on the blower but depends some on the size of the blower top opening and what kind of shoe you have in it. So on a 9000 rpm motor that is going to be around a 32% overdrive. I have seen it where the boost falls like a rock then you shift and the rpm drops and the boost shoots right up there again.

    Just buy someone's proven blower. Ask them for setup help and you'll be further ahead then trying it out for yourself. Trial and error get too costly for some. You don't want a blower that peaks power quickly. You want it to rise with Rpm. What make a blower great is how far it falls off when you shift and how quickly it recovers. Unfortunately you will never find a off the shelf blower to recover well after the shift. Only modified blowers from Janis billes critchley will have a great recovery rate.

    What is the relationship between the top hole size and RPM? I thought the shoe was to keep the rotors in compresion longer?

    I put a Fowler K11 extreme high od blower on my 272" top dragster. 540 CN billet block with AJPE billet heads. Blower designed to run at 40 over, I ran only 26 over and made 32 lbs of boost.
    First weekend out I ran a best of 6.04 @ 228 mph in Mission, B.C. Racepak said car was over fueling the whole pass. Top Dragster not allowed to run under 6.00 so maybe the Fowler K11 was a little overkill in top dragster.

    Nah, no such thing as overkill.
