We have been out 5 times this year never had this.

B&J 3 speed. When I pull the buttons back for low gear after the burn out or run i am getting trans oil blowing out the relief ports.. We have made 17 runs this year and the first time I had this was yesterday 9-5 The temp was 91 degrees.. hottest we have raced in. would the temp be a factor? Are my piston o-rings going away? Trans shifted and worked fine. Also on B&J recommendation we run 30 wt non detergent engine oil in the trans.

    thanks

I would definitely check the inner and outer o-rings. Might need to go to larger size also on them

Just went through the same thing, talked to Mike S. at B and J , he said that it is somewhat normal to have an accumulation of oil build up in the piston air chamber. Said that some racers vent the reverser to the catch can and it relieves the built up trans case pressure and helps keeps oil from being forced by the o ring. Told me to clean it out every now and then. We plumbed an extra air inlet into the bottom of my trans to help apply more even pressure to the piston, so I can just remove the bottom air line between passes to keep it drained.

Thanks for the info guys. anyone have O-ring code numbers for these that they use? Had an email about metric o-rings that work but no part numbers.

Might try the vent also. Just don't like the oil blowing on my suit.

    shift piston o ring

This can also happen if the shift piston o-ring is torn. Starting the car without the air bottle on can cause this, along with normal wear and tear.
