I did a bunch of searching previous threads and just could not come up with the right search words...........

I am building a new motor combo and need a little advice on 8mmm belt/pulley combos.

The 11mm 1595 belt was great on my .100 tall deck TFX with fuel heads and shorter intake. Now, with the BAE .100 tall deck and the taller BAE intake, I can barely get any sort of overdrive with the 11mm belt and even a custom 24 tooth 11mm top pulley.

My choices are any brand 1600 8mm belt or the star 1670 8mm belt, both 84 wide. What pulley combos are good for 128 over? With the 1670, I can use a larger top pulley, not familiar with the pro/cons of the longer Star belt.

What belt lives the best with a two step?

    TIA,
    Scott

    Belt

1705 -11mm will work fine on the tall deck. You will need a custom bottom pulley. Reehl sells them for around 275.00.
It's not simple but will outlive 8mm.

Scott, I have only seen 1400, 1600 and 1792 in a 8 mm GT belt. If you give me the distance between the centers of the upper and lower pulley and the number of teeth on each pulley I can tell you if the 1600 belt will work.

I have the 11 pulleys for good ODs

I was not aware of the 1705 11mm, that might be a good option. I have all the pulleys needed if I use the longer belt. Thanks!!!

According to my chart with a 23.4 and a total of 107 teeth then a 1600 8 mm GT is what you need. You get a horsepower gain of approx 20 with a 8 mm belt over a 11 mm belt. Don't ask me how , lol, that's what all the guys who have tested it on the dyno say

    11mm

The belt ends up too long so you have a huge top and bottom pulley. The crank triggers and everything on the bottom are a pain also because of the huge diameter. I ran the 11 on my Chevy with and rotor and 125%. 30 hits on the 2 step with a used belt of a px car. My bae has not been as successful but I think I cured it with a better idler setup with a central location.

I've run both the 1600-84 8MMGT and 1672-84 8MMGT Star Racer belts since January. Have not broke one yet and have NO BLACK SNOW like the Gates put off and dirty up your engine. Have been told they are good for at least 25 runs vice the 1-3 runs of the Gates. So far, that has been my experience. Very tight on a C Rotor, they actually squeak while turning over when tightened down. Happy so far.

Thanks Mike, I have heard everything from 10 to 150 using the 8mm vs 11mm.

    belt length

Hi Scott, I had the 1595 on mine with 41.7 percent of using a 51 bottom and 36 top I think it was and that was .100 tall BAE fatheads, BAE intake, and 1/2" retro plate but that 1705 belt may be worth a look. RCD has a nice charge for belt length on their site that I used that tells you what you can get away with for crank to blower centerlines and teeth counts.

Just remembered you run the screw...sorry bud

    Best wishes bud,
    Trevor Sherwood
