Can anyone tell me how much timing you can pull out of a 44 amp mag with a 6 shooter? and still be safe? not cross firing to and other cylinder

we are running a large cap set up

    thanks again

You can get away with as much as 20 for a short amount of time.

You want the mag phased in to be closest to the timing you run for most of the run. So if you are retarding timing for only 1-2 seconds, you want the mag phased to the 'normal' timing it goes to after your retard.

Some nitro teams that have significant retard for over half the run will phase the mag half of what their biggest retard is.

Butch, I have run 25 with the big cap and currently running 23. Was ready to duck when first trying 25 but needed to get the car past some bad spots. Worked okay but like Will said, the phasing has to be right to keep away from cross fire. Are you still running the Chevy combo?

It would seem to me if you have to retard it that much down low then you might need a gear change.

Hell yeah I'd change a gear. Launch higher and split the ratio further if it's shitty down track. Well I have a Lenco so I can get away with that.

    timing

Mike/Jay, We are not pulling that much timing out now, 4 at the hit and all back in by.50 seconds into a run, but sometimes we run on pretty shitty tracks and I just wanted to know how fare we could push it before I have to kill some of my first gear ratio,

also we are running a Bruno/NSX converter. and a 3 speed CS-2 large shift Lenco. fyi

    thanks again for the help
