about to start chipping an expensive airbrush paint job off my FC body. I know a razor blade is about the only way to get the paint off a carbon fiber body. I hope it comes off in big chunks, but my years of racing have made me a follower of O'Toole's corollary "Murphy was an optimist." So I'm prepared for a long painful process.

the easy way out would just be to wrap over top of the existing paint job, but I figure there is 15-20 lbs of paint on the car. if I can get 10+ lbs off of it for not much cost, just a lot of labor, it will be worth it.

just seeing if those of you who have done this have any pointers. i definitely don't want to have to come back in and put a bunch of filler to get it to look right.

    paint

We stripped a fiberglass car and had good luck with a lot of shop air blasted under the edge lifted with a razor blade.
Sometimes we got big junk chunks but overall it was a time consuming pain.

How many layers? We used stripper and when we got near last coat of paint used 120 grit on a da to get closer to the carbon. Then used 180 to finish it off.

    Hey Will:

The first white paint job we had on my Monte Carlo body was applied relatively thin by a local body shop. We did some repair to it and rather than adding another layer of paint we razor bladed it off and actually saved every chip of paint. We even used a shop vac to get every sliver off the ground. My guess was 10-15 pounds at least. End result after we weighed every chip was just over 5 pounds. Was it worth it? Not sure. The razor blade removed paint very easy in some areas and we had to get aggressive in others. In the end we needed to do a light skim and block sand in the more difficult areas and may have actually added a little weight back to it before we could paint it.

As usual, your results may vary.
