BBC, copper cometics, orings in the heads. I marked the gaskets clearly when pulling it down. I laid the gaskets on the correct sidesof the block, torqued the drivers head, grabbed the passenger head, except, crap...... it's the drivers head.

I reassembled with a new gasket, but I'm wondering if this one is a good spare or scrap metal. The oring grooves appear to have lined up perfectly, but obviously the gaps in the rings do not. Will it ltorch through at the ring gaps if I try to reuse it???

The shop used a Bhj fixture that attaches to the heads. Appears the orings are dead on side to side except for the gaps. I have always heard not to move them around, and I think read it on here a couple times, but that was usually with orings in the block.

Thanks for the feedback that it's ok. I will put this in the spare bin for the track and only be a little nervous if I ever have to put it into play.

I don't know about cometics, but I have seen bad things happen when head gaskets get mix-matched. I advised a customer not to re-use a set of head gaskets with a different set of heads. He did it anyway and it ran like shit for 2 or 3 runs before it finally pushed the gasket out between two cylinders and lifted the blower.

The damage cost much more than a set of head gaskets.

    Your mileage may vary....
