Hey now that carbon brakes are the norm. How do you clean them. 400 degrees in oven for 4 hours seems excessive. Brake clean is a no no. But what about acetone? What do you do at the track if engine Sprays oil and gets on rotors and pads. Any help would be apprieated.

You got me thinking on that. I called Strange and talked to Tracy. The answer is to bake them for 500F for eight hours. There is nothing else that you can put on them to clean them. No brake cleaner, no acetone, no nothing. Makes you think that you need to carry a spare front and back set $$$$$

Wow. So basically need to carry a heat gun and some acetone and do my best if something happens. Makes me wanna go to auto parts store and buy those fast and furious cheesy rotor covers to prevent anything from happening. lol.

It's a 100% virgin solvent. It cleans anything with no residue. It's so strong if you put it in a bag or cover it air tight it's fumes will soften anything. I bet it would pull oil out of a rotor in a air tight bag.

According to Strange Engineering you CANNOT use acetone on the carbon fibers rotors or pads. There is nothing that can go on them. Baking is the only approved way of cleaning them. You can send them to Strange to be baked.

Don't overthink it...and don't put anything else on them. An overspray of brakeclean probably doesn't hurt them. Unless you soak them in a bucket of oil, you most likely won't have any problems. Us TF leakers are the most prone to having a problem and rarely if ever do. A light surface mist of oil from and oildown will probably burn off as you are stopping. A second set is the most proactive way to be, but don't go out and spend money unless you have extra to burn. A more likely scenario would be to break a rotor during a warm-up while holding the brake if you do such a thing. Another reason to carry spares if you are looking for one. 500°F for the carbon is nothing but for the oil the heat cooks it back into nothing other than...carbon (kind of anyway).
