Wish to install a Shogun alternator, which I have. Can anyone furnish info on the regulator needed for these to operate properly ??
Researching I discovered that there regulator was required and no more than 18" away from the unit.
Also can a Shogun be operated in either direction??

    Shogun Alt

The Shogun Alternator I remember was a Permanet Magnet Generator. How it worked was the more you spin the generator/alternator, the more "Voltage" it made with minimal amperage. The extra piece you need to make it work/change to 12 volts and more amps to charge your battery is called a rectifier receiver. To check if this is the PMG just turn by hand and you will feel the magnetic pulses. The generator will put out 50-70 volts. it is then rectified down to 14 Charging volts for your battery and approx 30 amp output, I believe or numbers close to. Outboard motors used the same concept. I have seen the same shogun setup on "John Deere" tractor/ drive-on lawn motors, Cannot remember which one. They might help you out or you can look up yourself. I believe the generator can be spun both directions. Do not forget to get an engine drive DEEP pulley for the drive V-belt. Hope this helps. Just wanted add one more thing, "Great Website !" Yup, it's a generator and as I recall it doesn't put out energy worth squat. Cute maybe but a properly sized alternator will pay dividends.
