You can use either 48 or 36 volt per RCD. We use the Odyssey PC680 batteries for ours. They are small and work great. They can be bought through any battery store or online.

Yes sir, those are the batteries we use. There are smaller batteries out there, but these do the job well.

If you have the room, I would go the 48v route.

    Battery Issues

My car uses 2 motorcycle batteries to start the engine in a pinch or when I am just too lazy or hurried to hook up the cart booster batteries. I use them in series to start my blown dragster on 24 volts as on-board batteries if the engine ever dies (which it has). We use the big 12v truck batteries on the golf cart to actually crank over and start the engine. I have had to buy two new batteries every year from Batteries and Bulbs because even though they say the batteries have a 2 year replacement guarantee, the batteries will only hold the rated capacity for one year. I took the 1 year old batteries back because the batteries even fully charged would run down in 2 seconds while they would last 30 seconds or more when new. The Batteries and Bulbs guy put this little walkie-talkie looking "battery tester" on it and tells me that there is nothing wrong with them. After some discussion, the guy says, that he will sell me 2 new ones but will not warrantee the ones I brought in because his "battery tester" says they are still good.
The next day was race day and I did not want to risk it so I just bought two more of these batteries, this time they were in a Duracell labelled box. This is the last time I will buy those batteries from Batteries Plus now known as Batteries and Bulbs. FROM NOW ON I will only buy the PC-680.
Whew, now I feel a little better about it. Thanks, ITA!

    batteries

Feel free to give me a call at your convenience. My battery packs power every big TF and FC car team in the country. My packs also power many Alcohol, Nostalgia, Pro Mod, and A/ND teams. I have two types of battery packs available or just the batteries if you prefer.

My batteries are more powerful than the mentioned above. For example, the battery mentioned above is only a 17 amp hr battery. My batteries are a minimum of 20 amp hr. and are the same exact size. Not to mention, my prices are better than the above mentioned e-bay link.

I also have a new battery out that a few teams have been testing that is even more powerful than my 20. It is awesome and will be available shortly. Duane Shields, Johnny Ahten, and Rob Moore have been using them.

    Hope this helps,
    Larry

I'm not sure what the weight difference is as I only build battery packs as of now. You never know what the future holds! However, RCD does a very nice job w/their starter motors. I use them myself.

    charger

On this charger;;;after the weekend is over and I hook up this charger then can I just leave it hooked up until the next time I go racing or do I need to unhook it after it shows batteries are full charged and does it shows me when batteries are fully charged?

I don't believe it will float, but never tried. Since it's automatic and voltage sensing, once it hits full charge I believe it will shut off.
