I've heard that the less than 1' input shafts 'll twist .030' and take a set. Why question the baddest automatics in the world?

I was not questioning its durability I have one with the 1 3/16 shaft havent run it yet. My question was more towards how does a 2 speed work with blown alcohol with a 1.40 first gear- and how does it compare to a 3 speed in the same application 10.5 outlaw 3000 lbs about 2300 hp?

Todd Tuttrow (spelling?) runs one in his big dog car with a bae hemi, I think he has run in the high 3's in the 1/8 with it and a coan convertor. Works fine I think.

That 1.40 first gear option sounds like a dream come true for blower cars particularly light ones, you should finally be able to work the converter on launch and keep the car settled on the shift.

i'm having new tranny built, was going with 1.80 straight cut, but remembered 5.80 eddie saying that he was leaving so soft with air and tranny gear that he didn't hurt anything. Want gear is best for 540 ci 871 roots. Does anyone know what gear he's running?

Casey, Eddie runs something like a 1.60 or so with a 3.89 rear gear. But remember his 481x and superman make tons of power, the kind of power you need to get away with that setup. Dave Harris ran a 6 teen at the Rock last fall with a 4.10 rear and a 1.80 low gear in a glide. The problem with the 1.64 in a glide ( or at least the gearset I tried ) don't live to long. When Eddie ran a glide he used a diff gearset than I did but I can't remember whose it was, but he said it lasted just fine. I think that if you pour the fuel to it at the hit it will be fine with th 4.10 and 1.80 low gear, being lean at the hit is what makes these glide cars so violent, my POS went .927 in the 60 ft with a 1.80 low and a 3.89 rear smooth as butter....... untill it pushed out a head gasket. hope this helps Jody

I had a long talk with Carl about this 1st gear selection and he absoultley recomended the 1.40, although my car is not light in outlaw trim its 3000lbs im running 10.5W's.
hopefully I can just drive off the line with out pulling any timing, ye ha that would be nice.

    gears

What is the total length of the rossler glide.? Longer than a shorty glide? What do you think of the gearing for a 1900 lb 296 " dragster. 452 Bae -5 heads 14-71 Superman with mods for low OD boost. 34.5 or 36" tires. [180 first /389 rear?] want to turn 7600/8000 Anyone got any ideas. Like to get idea befor ordering cam. Thanks Don

    MoparChris440,

I helped tune a rear engine dragster last year with a 14/71 hemi and a glide and would love to try it with a set of 1.40 gears in it with the 17 inch tires. It seems like this would allow you to be able to keep timing in the motor keeping heat in the jugs so you could throw a bunch of fuel on it after the launch as well as run the 1st gear longer allowing the converter to work not just locking up in the first 50 ft.

I would agree totally, on 10.5s in an outlaw car at 3000 lbs. I think you would have the same senario, not having to pull 14 degrees out as well as not shocking the chassis on the shift. When I first ran my car in NMCA supermodified on 10.5s it was restricted to a single nitrous kit so I was running a .046 jet and Jeff Prock was telling me to use a tall gear and pull less timing to allow the converter to work, it took me 2 sets of gears and half a season to see his wisdom but it finally sunk in my thick head.

    Turbo glide

It would be neat, I only have enough room for a shorty power glide. I do beleave Ati made a 160 something gear. But I dont know anymore. I should give them a call. Thanks Don

Bradco Builds a nice Two Speed 400 as well.

I had Brad at Bradco build me a two speed 400 with the Reid case and Browel bellhousing. Brad's convertor as well. The trans and chassis have worked perfectly!!!! (motor, still learning:p)

I run a C @129 over, 526 fuel headed Hemi.Have run the car at 2900, 2800, and will be coming out in April at or below 2600. I needed more gear than the 4.29s I ran last year, 4.86 in car now.

I also went to a 4.86 rear gear had a 4.57 and was only crossing the 1/8 mile stripe at 8600, with the 4.86 should put me at 9200. Was lack of 1/8 stripe rpm your issue with the 4.29 gear also?? I have been 4.18 at 2900 lbs with a 1871 Roots but MPH 176 was down with the 4.57.

Yes, lack of RPM, and lugging the motor (way fat still). The 4.29 might be a good 1/4 mile gear once I get the tune sorted.
