Just curious about using a 2 lb. or 4 lb. residual valve for rear disk brakes on an Altered chassis...have 2 lb. front and rear now and I am re-plumbing the rear lines...is there any advantage to going to a 4 lb. Valve on the rear as far as a firmer pedal (handle)? Thanks in advance for any direction on this...

    valve me

no expert here, but had a problem with a altered with carbon brakes was sucking the pads in with no residual, first pump was non existant. put a residual and that kept the pads out for a proper feel. I would say, if you let the car sit, and the first pump is a hard one, going more probably wont help. if you have to double pump, there might be something there. everybodys is different, depending on calipers used, type of master, etc, but I can let mine sit for months, and hit the brakes, and just as hard after sitting. my 1 cents worth

I don't run carbon brakes on my car, nor do I run a valve. Brake handle is always full....never found the need to use one.

Also if you have a lot of braided hose on the car will give a spongy pedal. I have carbon on rear and put a spring in between the pads to help keep them apart for wear and drag. Pedal is still always firm

Maybe I should re-phrase my question...if I have a 2 lb. valve in the rear now....is there any advantage to going to a 4 lb. rear valve as far as firmer pedal (handle)?

You should not need to do this to get a firm handle -- You need to revisit how you bleed your brakes ---- what master cylinder setup do you have ---
Carbon or steel brakes you should bleed them properly -- and have a firm feel when done -

    Mark,
We are bleeding brakes properly....I spoke with CNC today about this....with their dual side by side master cylinder you must use their pressure bleeder master cylinder top which we do use...Tech said the the handle will not be any firmer....maybe just a little less stroke if we switch to 4 lb. valve...

I've had a Strange setup in both steel and CF----- I has a short firm pull ---- when they are bled properly ---- is your lever ratio correct ?
