Does anyone have any comments or suggestions about the lucas racing 70w nitro grade racing oil? im suppose to be getting 30 gallons this weekend to start out this year at a really good price. I usually go through about 20 cases of oil a year. 526 BBC 14-71 in a top sportsman car running 6.90s. just want to get peoples opinion on the oil.

    Lucas Oil

I always wondered why after buying their racing oil they wanted you to purchase in addition the "Stabilizer" ? Can somebody answer me that and why it isn't already included?

We have used LUCAS for 4 years now , great stuff. We use the stabiliser to oil the valve train on a morning that's all.
We have a oil heater on between rounds , and can honestly say we like LUCAS

    lucas oil

We've used 6 barrels of Lucas Oil over the last two years in the A/fueller, and it's been great.
As above, we use the stabilizer for pre-lube in the morning (and in areas during engine assembly), but as the 14 qts of 70W only stays in one run, there's no point in adding stabilizer.
I do you use the stabilizer in the Toterhome & the genny.

Damn, 20 cases a year! How many races do you run a year?

I run a 12 race season and the few test sessions throughout the year. I do not re use the oil. After each day of use I change it. Maybe its a bit overkill but bearings have all been happy the last 2 seasons.

I know when I was first presented with the idea of reusing the oil it seemed like a hack idea. My thinking was along the lines of "My engine DESERVES fresh oil!". But after crunching the numbers I was convinced to give it a try. That was close to 10 years ago and I have never witnessed any ill effects. We ran the same oil all season but there is a bit new getting added all the time in to keep the level topped off.

Any worries of 70 wt oil being to hard on standard BBC oil pump drive shaft?

    oil pump shaft

We had a standard oil pump shaft crack.Changed over to the arp shaft. We now always preheat the oil before cold start up.

    Bearing Clearance

sorry if i missed this, what clearance are you running on the bearings. If you are changing oil weight, were you not happy with the weight you were running?
70 wt has never been a problem, just do not rev the motor until the oil is warmed up.

    Why Isn't It Included?

Why do suppliers offer and sell additional oil additives? Because some people will pay extra for it.

I use the Valvoline VR1 60W in my blown alcohol dragster. Not rotating anything except the dollars in my bank account on this car. This oil seems to have all the needed zink and other good stuff in it, never a problem. I have a BAE hemi but it still uses a cam driven oil pump rod and I have the same concerns about the shaft breaking. I do use an oil heater in cooler weather. Located in Texas. I buy the Valvoline VR1 60W at Autozone for $3.00 a quart. Actually, I just bought 185 quarts of it at $3.00 per last week. Cleaned out the distributor but oh well.

If your clearances are not large enough to run 70W, and I do not know what those necessary clearances are for 70W, I would stick with a GOOD 60W. Just my country hick opinion.

If the clearances are not enough for the 70 wgt, just add some 50.
I am in NY, no oil heater, have run 50-60 & 70 without a problem with the pump shaft. I crank my engines until pressure comes up, with throttle open, close throttle turn on ignition the engines set there and idle until they are warm.
