After four years of building my car it is finally ready for final assembly. Over the years of building and all the hands all over it, it surface rusted. A few months ago i had it media blasted so using oil or any coating like that is out of the question. The car is a hemi altered. I was going to take it this week for powder coating. Does anyone have there car powder coated and has there been any problems. I think it looks the best and i'm tired of my car looking like i fished it out of junk heap..
    Thanks for your help,
    Jody

Since these cars are never really finished and you will be adding small tabs, changing the locations of several items, etc...I suggest a single stage urethane paint that is close in color to the bare chromoly tubing....I used a 2005-2007 Pontiac 238M gray metallic....pretty close and you can touch it up with a rattle can....

I agree with paint. You will see crack easier and touching up bars is easy. I would clear the bar that get beat up the most so they hold up a lil longer. I would never powder coat then clear powder coat a chassis. You will never see cracks until it's too late. And the weight of that would prolly add 30-50 lbs. my car was weighed before and after. It added 27lbs and that wasn't cleared either.

It's a bit of a luxury, but if you have access to it Kephos coating by Keko Coatings is awesome. It can be a little more expensive then powder coating but well worth it. When you go to weld you don't need any prep work, you can basicly weld right over it.

I know of one place in Indy that does it, but I am sure there are others as well.

You can read about it here - http://www.kecocoatings.com/Portals/86129/docs/KECO-Kephos.pdf

Our car is powder coated, and if I had it to do over again I would have never done it. Yes, it's tough as nails...but you can't touch it up when you need to....it's heavy.....and you can't see cracks. My next car will be scotch brited and rubbed down with Gibbs. Just my 2 cents
