I am putting a Keith Black hemi into a f/c frame, and the KB oil pump is hitting the frame. Does anyone make a smaller wet sump oil pump? I am currently using a 2 line pickup but would switch.

    Thanks,

I believe the KB pump is about as small as they get. In a funny car, the motor has to be low enough so the pump sits between the upper and lower rails, and the diagonal has to be strategically placed to clear the pump.

brian : is it hitting the main frame rail or just one of the uprights/diagonals . Moving the motor to get the pump to clear the main rail is a bitch . But moving an upright or diagonal is easy . We had to move the upright under the front motor plate when we went to pluegers big dry sump pump .

It is hitting the top frame rail. I had to mount the engine about 1 inch higher than normal, because of how the rearend is mounted. I will lower the engine, and rearend if nec. however If there was a smaller oil pump, it would save me alot of work. I currently have a KB cast pump, and I know that a billit pump like KB, and Faria make are smaller, But I dont know if they are small enough.

Thanks for the responses so far,

I don't what kind of blower you are putting on the car but I would be careful of raising the motor that high you are probably going to run into a problem of seeing over the blower

JW- If you could get me some measurements, that would be great. Mainly the height of the faria pump from the block, but also any other relevant measurements. I will be forever in your debt.

TAD117 - I appreciate your concern, however I have the motor with a 14-71 mocked up in the frame now, and at 6'4" I can see over it OK.

Also the car will be a fuel altered, for anyone who is wondering.

    Thanks everyone,
    Brian Klein

It will also be more prone to wheel standing if the motor is too high.

Brian : faria pump is 3.500 from mounting face to end of pump .faria is 2.187 from centerline of pump shaft to top of pump . plueger pump is much longer at 5.000 but is shorter in height at only 1.750 hope this helps . if you need a faster response , e-mail me at joe@topalcoholfunnycar.com ( i check e-mail a couple times a day ,but only get time to surf the web a couple times a week . ) JW

I have Barnes a dry sump oil system that is super fancy without the fancy price that will cure your problem if you are running a raised cam block.
