Differential weight

Wondering what the weight difference is if any between a fabricated steel full floater housing and an aluminum housing ( Strange or Mark Williams).
And what people like for legal pro mod.
I have a fabricated steel housing from G-Force and it leaks like a sieve, it is brand new (supposedly).
What are your thoughts?.

 

Wheres it leaking from ? I have a g force deal tom and if it's leaking it's broken. Nothing beats a billet housing. There lighter, stronger and don't break. M/w is best, chuck ford and Mcamis have very nice units . Fab housing are cheap and usually good for about 2 seasons

 

by how much weight are the aluminum housings lighter?.

 

I had a custom MW 11" made to replace my old McAmis (Cathey) rear. Wheel flange to wheel flange, all in, on a scale with steel brakes, it was a 55 pound penalty but I did not mind one bit given the durability factor of the MW. I cannot speak for some of the other offereings, but I'd expect the trend would be similar versus a fab housing plus or minus a few pounds.

If your fab housing leaks, then start looking for cracks or manufacturing flaws. IMO, the fab housings are more prone to cracking and shifting thru use. Just my opinion though.

 

11 inch is over kill with carbon brakes that a19,000 unit. The 9.5 unit is awesome or even toms 10in. Deal is nice. I would call mcamis. They have charts that tell you weight on every single pRt they sell.

diff weight

haven't seen one in a pro mod, but a billet chrisman 10.5 with carbon brakes and no brackets is 182 lbs dry and pretty strong. I believe the 11 inch mw was advertised at over 210 lbs, I have researched the titanium housings, but
they seem to be good for light cars, but are easily bent in high hp applications.

 

No call out there. The sales guy , only one there knows his shit. Brad Johnston or brain something like that. He is awesome about helping you out with weight of products he sells on all there cars.

I looked at mw website before I bought my mw rear,if im not mistaken mw has the weights on their website with whatever option you want.
