TFFC versus TAFC Chassis ???'s

Okay, what are the main differences between an alcohol funny car chassis and a fuel funny car chassis? Just the chassis, not the body. Any input would be appreciated...... Current stuff, not old stuff. Thanks.

 

Fuel cars have heat treated frame rails.

 

If I am not mistaken the heat treat mandate went away in 2008 with 2008 chassis spec will be one-and-a-half inch .095 chromoly tubing on the top and bottom rail with sleeves in each bend. The bend at the rear firewall, at top and bottom will require a sleeve. The bend at the front of the motor that goes up to the hoop will also require a sleeve in it too.

 

T/F vs A/FC

Unless you have a properly controlled heat treating oven,
the proper and EXACT procedure,
AND the correct and rigid enough FIXTURE,
You CAN NOT HEAT TREAT or NORMALIZE a 280-300 inch fuel chassis!

This goes for ANY chassis!

Thermal stress relief is 1 hour per 1 inch of thickness at 600 degrees for 4130.
Normalization of 4130 happens at around 1650 degrees.
Tempering of hardened 4130 begins at 1050 and the closer you go toward 1650 the softer it will get.

PLUS the temperature HAS to be brought to the correct heat in a timed and controlled manner.
Left there for an EXACT time....
AND COOLED in a strict and controlled time frame.

A rosebud Oxy/Acetylene torch and a 1050/1100 degree Tempilstik WILL NOT WORK!

Engine setback

Hi,

The engine setback is usually different if I recall correctly.

Your best bet would be to call Brad Hadman or Murph Mckinney and they could give you all the details.

I do know its generally not recommended to run a nitro chassis on blown alcohol if your looking to get the most performance out of your setup, did research on this myself a long time ago.
