I am changing gears this winter. My nine inch housing is iron with Lenco cast into it. The gears are 4.29 "10" inch and in perfect condition.

If replacing the case to aluminum were an option, what case has seen good life? What is weight difference?

Who's gears do well, planning on 9.5 or "10" inch

    526, C screw, 2 speed 400 1.40 low, gears are for 1/8 mile

    TIA

Call Tom and talk to him. I don't know how much our billet unit weighs or what a steel one ways. One thing for those who can't fit a 10" ring gear then consider a Tom's 9 1/2" ring and pinion because they are built from 10" drawings so the teeth are as thick as a 10" ring and pinion. I will tell you this that a 10" ring and pinion from Tom's is just under a $1000 but worth every bit because they last so long.

I have a iron carrier here ready with gears -- it weighs approx 72 lbs --- I think the unit DMPE makes comes in 19 lbs lighter , so I am not sure where Tom's is at -

Does anybody have the link to Toms gears , or web site ?

Anyone run Precision Gear 9.5" gear sets? Good or bad experience or life expectancy?

Not meaning to hijack, but will a 9.5" gear fit in a 9" Top-loader without mods or at least minimal mods?

    Hi Scott,

If budget is no problem then like Mike says Ton's all the way. What we are going to be running is a Strange ultra center section and a Tom's 10" ring gear, the center is normally just under $2000 complete w/ 9" gear, then add the price difference for the 10" gear. These hold up in pro mod well and our good friend Kenny is running one in his screw blown pro mod, I think they stuck a Motive 10" gear in there and only got 7 passes out of it.....Tom's was on backlog.

    Best wishes,
    Trevor Sherwood

I just bought a 10'' gear from christman and was not happy to see it was a motive gear. Where does tom get his from ????Not just anyone can make a rear end gear.figured since christman made the rear ends that most fuel cars run they would have a good gear vender

    gear

The ultra case is the strongest for the money. We had a total disaster setting up a 9.5 us gear in one 2 weeks ago but after we got it clearanced it setup nice and turned way smoother than Richmond. We hit it 7 times and will inspect and reset over the winter.
