burnt push rod BAE FAT Head 5??????

    We just started to run a bae 5 heads on a stage 15 kb block first pass burnt a intake push rod cup . we do not feed oil in rear of heads?, should we???? Do we block off ports in head or feed from both ways? Looked at some other cars at the track and it looked like they also welded up the ends of the rocker shafts?pretty ugly!Any Ideas THANKS Brian 724-274-8900 alltime@bellatlantic.net :confused:

    We run the Drazy mod on the intake rockers and we also opened up the oiling groove on our camshaft. We haven't needed the external oiling lines.

    we always use permatex
    ultra slick engine assembly lube have ran dart heads in the past and never burnt a push rod

    i dont know how the permatex stuff works; i've always had good luck with torco assembly lube. make sure when you prelube your valvetrain you take a finger full of lube and rub down that intake adjuster; its hard to get to. some people lap in their adjusters to their pushrods. the bigger intake adjusters help too. we also use a pre oil system.

    make sure you dont have the restictors in the #4 rocker stands.this will cause problems on the kb block . call if you have any questions 713 398-9563

    I don't remember who makes them but use the adjusters that have a hole through them. Maybe they all have them now. A good place to put oil through though. We have had good luck with them. Also do what Will said, put lube on your finger and coat the adjusters with it. The pump style oil cans work good for this also.
    Check your push rod length. Check with BAE or your push rod manufacturer for the procedure to check for push rod length.

    We changed our camshaft on our Stage V headed engine and had a nasty surprise waiting for us when we started for the warm up, nearly all of the push rods were burnt up. My tip is to make sure that when the rockers pivot on the shafts that they expose the oil squirter holes exactly. Most of ours didn't so we modified the shafts to suit and we now only use 60wt oil as a start up lube and no damage whatsoever.

    I think Manton also makes an adj. screw with the oil hole to oil the tips .

    We have Manton adjusters with the little hole along with a hand pump style grease gun with "peanut butter" - Detroit Deisel lube. Just one pump when adjusting the valves...
