fans in pit

    going go back in Aug for TEST AND TUNE and going be hot;;;thinking of going to wal mart and get a fan to put under canoply to help cool me and crew members..what kind of fans are everyone using?can't afford very expensive but need something;;see they have the ones on stands..ones sets on floor and the old square box fans like i remember my parents had sitting in the windows;;since never had a enclosed trailer with a 10x20 canoply to sit car under it;;i'd like to hear what others has learned from there years experiance as to what works best as to type fans and location of them;;i been trying find pics on net of racers pit area to see what was being used but about only thing i found was a pic of where a racer had the old style box fans tied up top of there ez-up canoply on frame of canoply ;;pics of yours set up be lot of help for me;;i'm old and don't handle heat as did when younger

    Home Depot sells a very large roll around Drum fan. You can get them in several sizes. These are industrial work site fans. Get the biggest they have. I think Northern Tools also sell them. Google Home Depot Drum Fans

    What about a squirrel cage fan, aren't they supposed to be quieter?

    Our round fans we've been using move a nice amount of air, but they are loud.

    I think if you buy a belt drive unit the blades are pitched more and can turn slower so they are not as loud. I bought a direct drive unit so the blades are pitched less and turn fast ... mine is loud. spend the extra cash and buy a belt drive fan.

    When I saw the title "fans in the pits" I thought you were talking about people who came to see the races. LOL.

    Robert; be gentle with poor Randy, he's a retired racer now, so it takes a little while to understand that nobody wants to ask you things anymore.....:rolleyes:
