Is anybody using titanium valve springs in alky funnycar or dragsters? Are they worth the extra expense and how many runs do you get from a set? pro's and con's

we use them as it was the spec of the motor we brought....pros you can run lighter spring pressure down to 300 safely so iv been instructed, and when the break they tend not to drop the valves, massively less dynamic weight,
cons. Price and also i have guru instructions that at 14 runs you chuck them out...my guess is looking at all the fancy stuff out there my motor has none of it regular heads Big fc pistons bae valve gear with skinny pushrods, o and it runs well into the 260s in a legal TAFC but the one thing it does have fancy is those springs, now you got to make your mind up....

    springs

    Graham,

On Fred Hanssen's TAD/TMD, we initially ran Ti intake springs on it when it was here in the US before he bought it. We changed to the PAC dual springs and saw little change in performance.

If budget isn't a problem, you might consider them, but at $1800 a set vs $500-700 a set. Steel springs you can run 10-15 runs and swap them over to the Exhaust and get another 10-15. You are very lucky if you make 14 runs on a Ti spring without the outer spring failing. They are prone to drop a valve once the outer spring breaks. Some ti springs were only going 3-6 runs on a set before they would start breaking. Spring costs were putting some alky guys out of business, so steel springs were necessary. When PAC and now other companies came out with better alloy springs that would do the job, it really helped a lot of racers.

Many of the legal Pro Mods that are dyno hounds use the triple springs due to very aggressive ramp speeds.

Graham, I completely understand what you are saying too. If Frank was using it, why change.

    Hi Will
why change...well in an ideal world i wouldnt also i have 5 years experience with a leanders clutch and my car has a crower, so do we change there
my thoughts is, that we are not frank, and to start with the crower throws away 5 years experience also i hear the 1361 pac springs get the job done probably frank diddnt pay for much but we pay for everything,
so when the last few i have left are done we will change

Manley and PSI also offer a very good alloy spring.
