Blown 540 DART making between 1,200 and 1,600 or so HP depending on setup. Wheels are 16X16 single beadlock (Weld) and currently have Hoosiers (33.0 16-15, C07 compound). Asking as we moved from a blown FED to the altered recently and the wheel/slick combo noted above came with the chassis - slicks are 3-years old and considering new ones just to be safe.

Note: Car will run TD/IHRA low to mid-7's with mild tune up. 3.89 rear end gears, full floater rear (MW 9.5) and custom built power 2spd glide.

Any input is appreciated - leaning towards Good Year but for the altered and this setup, appreciate any input re best slick/compound tire from experience, similar combination. We are in Texas, so most of our races are in the heat!

    Thanks

With a beadlock Micky Thompson 3186 or 3187 would be good for you, call their tech line and see which of the two they recommend. One is for clutch cars and the other for blown automatics.

    tires

I have the same car. the first two sets we used were Goodyears, then I decided to give the Hoosiers a try, I like them a little better. I use a powerglide and the second gear shift is tough sometimes, seems like the Hoosier hooks up better in second gear. wish I could answer why. nothing else changed so I feel its the tires that do the trick.

I run an altered very close to your combo. I run 34.5 hoosiers. I've run a ton of 6.80's with zero problems. They are all I will use.

    Tires

We run a lot more hp but the Hoosier 34.5 tires are commonly available from most if not all of the top alcohol teams and you could purchase a set or 2 off of them after they cycle them out cheap. This was what we were doing on the top dragster I tuned on and we ran 6.20's in the 1/4 without missing a beat .980 sixty was the best we had but would have been better save for a leaky hat line causing problems on our best run. For TD brackets a little too much tire won't hurt you.

When we order new ones there are two part numbers, one is for nitrous and one is for blown alcohol something to keep in mind if you buy a new set.

Also Jody is a smart fella as well but I have seen Sheldon Bissesar take patches out of a set of new M/T's in 1 run and went back to the Hoosiers, then set the world record (Albeit on a 2600+hp car)

    Hope this helps some,

Ive ran goodyear,toyo,m/t, and hoosiers. hoosiers have given me the least amount of grief and for me at least been the most consistent. just imo dont run m/t, we ran a tire for our setup blown dragster with double locks then and I never felt tire shake so violent in my life. Hoosier is a great tire and they got "it" for us blown guys. my two cents

I might as well throw my 2 cents in here as I have a little experience with an altered. for the power you have and the gear you want to run I would NOT put a 34.5 tire on that car. that is way too much tire for that car. we ran a Hoosier 33.5x17-16 with pretty good success with an altered. we ran a lot of .950-.970 60' times with a small tire and a clutch. I would not go any bigger with what you have.....the car will run better with a smaller tire.
    hope this helps,
    Darren

I think the reason the Mickey's are starting to fall out of favor is that you can hardly ever get two tires with the same rollout, so they cause tire shake and they tend to drive one way or the other because of the difference in size.
