CS1 coarse spline input question

Are you referring to the point that the front seal rides on the input shaft? If the holes for the magnets are right where the seal rides then I would say that the Gearset is not far enough into the front bearing. Have you had that gear set out recently?

 

I am confused by what you mean as to the "collar" on the input shaft. There is no movable collar on the standard Lenco input shaft. Maybe somebody installed one to present and better sealing surface for the front seal. (If I understand you correctly). Why don't you take a picture and email it to me at mike.c@mindspring.com.

 

I agree it is probably a repair sleeve for the front seal area. My concern would be how far the input shaft is going into the transmission. If they hold for the magnet is way in then that would indicate that the Gearset in the front maybe is not driven all the way into the bearing that is in the case. One thing to check is to install the can with no clutch and just the flywheel then bolt up the Lenco with the input shaft installed then take the inspection cover off the can and reach down and move the input shaft to the front and back and see how much slack there is. Should be about an eighth of an inch if I remember correctly. If way more would maybe indicate that the shaft is in fact too far back in the Lenco.

 

Ok I saw your picture and just talked to my friend at Lenco and he says the length of the amount of splined shaft showing that fits into the front of the CS1 on a coarse spline that should be .650" and on a fine spline it is .750". If the collar has moved it is because the shaft fit length is off and it is hammering back and forth which makes the collar move
