We are wanting to cool the Converter / Bruno , when we have the car back in the pits.

What are people using , and how have you plumbed it for best results ?

    Thanks Wayne

    P.S Happy New Year :)

Wayne, you need an ice chest with two little oil coolers inside and two pumps on it. Then you need two hoses with quick disconnect couplers on them. The best thing to do is to buy it complete and ready to go from Mick Snyder of Synder Motorsports (219) 987-2821. As far as the Bruno unit you need to tee into the oil line coming directly from the converter which is on the drivers side under where the pressure gauge is then return it to the Bruno pan on the opposite side. If you call Bruno and talk to either Bruno or Andy they will be more specific. You have to get that line from the converter because that fluid will be about 300 degrees after a good run and you want to circulate the cool fluid through the converter. Circulating just the oil in the pan doesn't help.

Hi Mike , that's pretty much what I figured , its more the cooling of the Converter that Iam trying to get done. I have a cooler and fan under the rear of the car , and we see 270 degrees at the top end , and of course we are trying to get everything cool again back in the pits.

I will call Bruno. Thanks again Mike.

does anyone else have any experience good or bad ?

    cooler

Mikes plumbing is correct. We run the deep bruno pan and have monitored temps and pressures for years. We bought a cheapo plastic shurflo pump on ebay and mounted it on the side of an average sized cooler. Glued a big trans cooler in the bottom with rtv and built up quick disconnect hoses with industrial fittings. Its worked good for several years but we gave up on ice and use 5 gallon jugs of water. In the summer it needs a fresh 5 gallons every run. In hindsight, I would build an air to air loop with an electric fan blowing accross it.Cold water could be used if time is short or just air/air when there is time.

I'm glad to see all of you are seeing the 270+ temperatures with your Bruno as that is what I see. I had nothing to measure it by and I thought I may have had an issue as I short shift sometimes and really work the converter but I see only 1-2% slip on the top end. I use Bruno's fluid and while it still works fine, it really looks cooked and smells like sh*t after a few runs. Any recommendations for this?

It's really tuff to beat Red Lines Racing Synthetic trans fluids. I've used the type "F" for a long time and probably pushing it's limits right now. I did discuss and research the next step with Red Line and they did develop a fluid to deal with the very high heat issues. Hopefully this link will let you take a look at it.

    Fluid

We've run redline lightweight racing ATF for 2 seasons with good results. We see over 300 degrees and have never changed it due to burning.
The frustrating part about the Bruno is most heat is made idling and staging. The actual run only increases 15 degrees. We run loose stators and short shift often.
I've done mods and experiments and it can run cooler but the pressure suffers and it doesn't show on the et.

1 pump and 1 cooler in the ice chest here. Figure a sm/med bad of ice per round w/ cooler 1/3 full of water. Cools it in 20-30 min. We pull fluid from the pan and push where the pressure gauge goes in. Not sure you wanna pull at pressure gauge, pump won't work as hard pulling from the pan. Air to air would be nice so you don't have to deal w/ ice. But for time you can't beat ice. After running 30 min the converter is cool to the touch and the case of the Bruno is still warm.

    Just as an update.

We made our own cooler. Pulling fluid out of the pan , through a fan cooled off board cooler , then back through the converter.
It works really good , cools in about 15-20 minutes .

Hi , the pump is a 12v item.

MARCO UP12/OIL. Heavy duty gear pump. Part number 164 320 12.

We sourced it from a hydraulic supply company over here in England.

    Hope this helps
