Lifter question

    Ok so before we spend a chunk of money we want to buy right

    Lifters for big block Chevy. What to go for?

    New block is at stage where we can go for .904" or .937" - that part is a no brainer... .937"

    But what brand? What style? Jesel dog bone? key way? benefits or one Vs another please?!

    We will go for the 850 wheel too as due to increased size its going to be spinning slower overall.

    Also while it is in my head - needle ? seems a little like they will 'point load' over say Isky ez-roll? HELP!

    We will use a 55mm cam in this motor too.

    Advice very welcome.

    Depends on who you talk to.

    After talking to way too many people here is what I am running in my new motor next year.

    540 CN billet block, AJPE billet heads, Fowler K11 Extreme 14-71, 60 mm cam, .830 lift...

    We decided to go with Isky needless keyway lifters. .937 with the .850 wheel.

    Time will tell if we made the right choices.

    Steve, thanks for reply. They are the lifters we are mainly looking at. No needle bearing a good point as far as we can see. Again size we're likely to go for.

    What are those heads like too? Its another item on the shopping list for 2014-15...

    The AJPE heads are beautiful to look at and they are very strong. A buddy of mine has destroyed three short blocks under those heads and although the heads no longer look that nice they still work great and required no repairs other smoothing over where the pistons hit...

    Downside is they are expensive and I've been told there are better flowing heads out there but I was shopping for dependability not max power as I have only a 6.00 chassis.

    So it's been over a year, can you report on how the Isky bearingless Keyway lifters worked out for you?

    I am very interested to know also.

    We are at this point too of buying some more new parts; block, lifters, cam, etc

    What problems go away when going from stock BBC cam core to 55 or 60?

    Don't you also then need to go to special lifter bore sleeves to get oil to the lifter because the big cam core raises the lifter oil hole alignment? This is $850 option from Dart.

    Seems .904 lifters are a no brainer, maybe even .937 but when the cam core gets bigger the dollars add up fast, is it worth it?
