Has anyone tried this on a blown alcohol deal with 1/16 ring package ?

My recommendation is to never use a gas ported piston on a blown motor. The gas ports make the piston rock in the bore and creates extreme piston skirt and bore wear. It is not worth it.

    gas port

i run lateral gas port with std top ring on my bae engine
my 2nd engine im running now has dykes
i dont see a difference but if i order pistons they will be dykes

i had 30 pistons from ross that i got with 2 of my engines that were lateral ported

I would think a good set of Dykes rings would get you better results than gas porting IMO.

Yes, I agree that lateral gas porting is better and causes less piston rock but I still have yet to see any worthwhile power increase.

We run the hell fire rings are they a dykes ring? I have a friend with a twin turb deal & he uses the gas ports that got me to thinking.

I would stay with the Hellfire dykes.

Craig, the "Hellfire" ring comes in conventional sizes like .043 & 1/16" but is also available in "Dykes" form.

The most common dykes is the .017, meaning it has a .017 deep step cut into it.
For instance, the outside edge towards the cyl wall is 1/16" but about .040 something in, it is stepped down .017. The piston is made to fit this step. Thinking being that the compression will grab that lip and help push it to the cyl.

You can run vertical or lateral (horizontal) gas ports, or you can run dykes, but not both.
They both use cylinder pressure to aid the ring in sealing against the wall.
    Hope that helps.

Explain how gas ports make the piston rock in the bore.
Don't get me wrong, I would never use gas ports in any blown motor. By the way, I've sold guys pistons with both vertical and lateral gas ports on the same pistons. Most people liked them that way.

If you use gas ports especially the vertical ones you will most likely get heavy wear on the piston skirts and the cylinder bore. This wear on the skirts occurs only on the area parallel to the wrist pin which according to the piston manufactures is caused by the piston rocking on the wrist pin. This only happens with gas porting and is most likely caused by the uneven flow of gases going down through the ports and pushing against the rings and cocking the piston on the bore.

You are right Tony, some guys run both vertical and lateral gas ports.
What I meant was you don't run gas ports and dykes together, just one or the other.
