Here's our latest ITA Power Rankings following Dallas

    Last week's ranking in parenthesis

    TAD

    1. (1) Jim Whiteley - Very close to clinching second-straight National Championship with impressive Dallas win. Would like to 'go out' as Champion. As many who retire after a championship, we wouldn't be shocked to see him back out in a few years, even if it is another class.

    2. (2) Chris Demke

    3. (3) Brandon Booher - Only racer left with a shot at Whiteley. Needs to win out and have Whiteley stay out of the semifinals.

    4. (5) Bill Reichert - Seems to be returning to form with a strong showing of 5.20's in Dallas.

    5. (4) Gord Gingles

    6. (6) Alan Bradshaw

    7. (10) Mark Taliaferro - Showed once again he can find the 5.20's. With more consistency, will move up rankings.

    8. (7) Shawn Cowie

    9. (8)Ray Martin

    10. (9) Rich McPhillips

On the bubble: 11. Dan Page, 12. Ken Perry, 13. Randy Meyer, 14. Marty Thacker, 15. Don St. Arnaud

    TAFC

    1. (1) Frank Manzo - The final round win streak is over, but Ace still has a bad hot rod.

    2. (2) Annie Whiteley - Lost in the semifinals in Dallas, but ran some very impressive numbers getting there.

    3. (6) Shane Westerfield - Manzo had just a few more races until he retired, and this punk has to go and ruin his streak. Some people have a lot of nerve. Tuner Bob DeVour and the Westerfield team were on a string all the way to the winner's circle.

    4. (3) John Lombardo - Started the year off with a very hot hand, but has fallen off of late. We look for a return to his early season form as the schedule returns to his backyard.

    5. (4) Tony Bartone/Mickey Ferro - We're going to chalk their DNQ in Dallas to being a fluke.

    6. (5) Dale Brand

    7. (7) Jay Payne - Peak/Thunderslug has been right in the thick of the front runners all year.

    8. (8) Clint Thompson

    9. (9)Kris Hool

    10. (10) Dan Pomponio

On the bubble: 11. Andy Bohl, 12. Todd Veney, 13. Chris Foster, 14. Steve Gasparrelli, 15. Cassie Simonton

    TAD title chase

Booher is out of title contention with a maximum of 688 points (Whiteley currently has 722). Demke can still win if he wins the Vegas and Pomona nationals (assuming he's not going to Reading) and Whiteley doesn't advance past the second round at either his next two nationals.

I believe that is wrong, I currently have 519 points with five events. I have two more event to count full points at, equaling 170, taking my amassed total to 689. After that I could improve on a second round loss netting me 43 points and re-totaling to 732.

    Brandon's right

I was replacing events prematurely. It's still a three-horse race with Demke/Booher having to win out unless Whiteley reaches a semi.

Based on my math, if Frank wins Maple Grove, he will clinch. If Frank makes it to Semi's, Westerfield and Lombardo are mathematically eliminated. Annie Whiteley is already out of the running for the #1.. Pomponio has the best opportunity to catch the old man by winning out, but Frank would have to be very Un-Frank to lose it at this point.

If Frank wins Reading, he'll be at 712
Frank can max at 787 winning out

    Pomponio can max at 722
    Westerfield can max at 670
    Lombardo can max at 669
    Annie can max at 658

Hey, like Bob Frey always said, we don't race on paper. Frank was looking pretty human again in Dallas, didn't make it down the track once without shake. And not just Frank saying it shook shake, I mean saw the shake. He could really Frank it at Maple Grove or it could look like I was tuning the thing and shaving weight of the car by dragging the coil on the ground every lap. lol. While I doubt the latter, it could happen.

I'm just saying stranger things have happened. K.C. Royals have won a World Series, Cleveland Browns have made the playoffs, a Veney motor has run a 40, and a Converter car has gone 275.

We are going to run Noble instead of Reading.

    TAFC title

Manzo would have an interesting decision to make if he won Reading...

That would bring him to 712 points, which equals the maximum potential of Bartone and Westerfield (Pomponio is out in this scenario because a runner-up in Reading would bring his max to 701, and Lombardo would be out if Manzo reaches the final). Manzo (if he stopped at Reading after a win), Bartone (sweeping last three races), and Westerfield (sweeping last three races) would all be equal through the first three tiebreakers (most round-wins, head-to-head, applying points at scored events -- winner 5, runner-up 3, semi 2, quarter 1). Manzo would hold the advantage based on the fourth tiebreaker, adding in the eighth national and fourth regional event into the total (he would have a runner-up and second round compared to Westerfield's two second rounds and Bartone's two first rounds).

HOWEVER, should Manzo choose to go to Vegas as he is currently entered to do, he would leave himself vulnerable to suffering a head-to-head loss to Bartone and Westerfield in the early rounds and thus put his championship in jeopardy. He would only need a semifinal finish in Vegas or Pomona to clinch, but he could ride off into the sunset with a 17th title if he won Reading and decided to quit.

Posts on here and Facebook may indicate some teams traveling elsewhere, but as of this morning they're entered for the race in Maple Grove.

    New Tiebreakers

Come to find out, there are new tiebreaker methods for the Lucas Oil classes in 2013.

    http://www.nhra.com/Userfiles/file/LODRS_National_Tie_Breaker_Policy.pdf

A Manzo win this weekend would bring it to the third tiebreaker (average qualifying position) if Bartone or Westerfield won out. A win from the No. 1 spot would give him the advantage over Westerfield but leave it open for Bartone (Manzo's No. 12 spot in Gaiensville killed his average). Manzo going to Vegas would leave head-to-head possibilities open anyway, so I won't delve any further for the time being. Point is, the championship will go down to Vegas regardless of what happens this weekend.

    No manzo in Vegas...

He must be planning to just win this weekend and go out on a high note.

    I'm out...
