This is aimed more at my fellow Canadians but anybody can give me an opinion. I finally got my engine fired this last weekend and have to do a few minor changes to a few things. The real issue is I may not get time to fire it again for about a month (work etc). I'm from Alberta and it can get cool in October, I may get lucky, but if not, the temps could be as low as 10c (50f) to 15C (59f) during the day. I do have a pan heater and can get the oil heated good but what is point where I have to say forget it and mothball it until spring. Firing it one more time to test my changes will be a great help and I can move ahead over winter. I just don't want to hurt anything because I got too anxious.

    Thanks
    Corey

Thanks, that's how we do it anyways (50/50 gas/meth). Big thing is will firing the engine in the cold ambient be an issue?

I'm guessing by the responses that this isn't going to really hurt much if the oil is warm.

If you can heat the oil you should be fine .
We have fired when there was frost on the ground but we heated the oil and ran a space heater under the engine and got it warm first .

It'll be fine, warm the oil with pan heater, get a space heater on it aswell if u can, prime it with gasoline or if you can get sum race fuel like c12,in England we often run/run the cars up in real cold conditions,at our Easter meet at the end of march this year it was sub zero this year, not ideal but with a space heater on the motor (526 veney hemi)we had no issues atall,

    Cold weather start

Corey, if you have some sort of blower/heater, let that blow on the engine for a while.
Like in February and the car won't start, salamander garage heater time.

BTW, a salamander garage heater does REALLY welll on the side of an aluminum (BAE) engine to change sleeves.
About 10-15 minutes on a side about 4 feet away (1.5 meters).
The sleeves basically fall out and in...

Corey, I find that 65* f is the switchover point for using a gas and meth mixture.

    heating

I find that heating the fuel pump is of greater impotence than the engine. The pump will scuff if it is too cold. Heating the oil is fine but i have never seen any problems from not doing it. I run a TFX hemi with 60 or 70 weight oil.
