is 24v really needed with a roots combo and a mag 20,read all the threads on here and just as confused as when I started lol presently only have room for one full size battery so was going with a 16v and 12v starter, also is a Meziere pro mod $750 flexplate really needed or will their regular one do the job,or another brand ok?whattya think??

Yes a 24 volt starter is needed. You can use lightweight Braile 12 volt batteries in series. If you don't use a MĂ©ziere, CSR or DMPE flexplate you will have problems. The most common and reliable one seems to be the CSR. Check with Mick Snyder Motorsports for good pricing.

You didn't say how big a roots blower your running.

In my son's dragster we run a 8-71 Littlefield with hat and alcohol. We also run a ProMag 12. In his car we run the lower cost Meziere flex plate with a 12v Hatachi starter and 16v battery. Starting is never an issue, fire right up. Make sure you get the diesel Hatachi stater which is longer and heavy duty. We do top the battery off with the charger between rounds to make sure it's the best it can be.

In my dragster which is ProCharged F3-139, also run the same starter and 16v battery with a CSR flex plate and MSD 10 Plus ignition.

We've had no issues with ether car in spinning it fast enough to start.

    That's our experience anyway.............Blessings.........Ron Clevenger

2 odyssey PC680 batteries will fit in the space of 1 full size batterie .
I use 2 of those wired in 24v with a meziere starter with there 24v solenoid and it spins fast enough to fire on the crank trigger when warm .

so ...the consensus would be,24v starter with two small 12v batteries, but do you charge these as a 24v assembly/24v charger or somehow charge them as 12 v separately??

Either way. You can buy a 24 charger or charge them as a 12 volt. CSR make a special box so you can charge them as a 12v.
