Type of boost? Type of Fuel? Type of management? Coolant or no coolant? The list goes on and on..... You might want to consider a product like what this company has to offer, and explore what your engine really "likes" as you have it configured. There's a board member that has a used basic unit for sale and if you PM me I might be able to hook you up with him. www.tfxengine.com

How do you keep head gaskets in it! And it sounds like I would not put any more timing into it

I ran the same combo for years once we went over 33* 34* in timing it would from time to time lift the heads and push out a head gasket.egts and plugs were safe to much strain on the head bolts. I was looking into the tool steel studs never tried them went to 75 lbs on the reg arp studs

Did running higher ft pounds on the studs help did you stay around 32 degs on timing then?

You don't say what mag your are running ????? I would agree with the thought you have enough lead in it --- look for something else to tweak a little --

Im thinking your already there on the timing. Been down this road already.

You'll need to fix that head gasket issue and find more blower air volume and efficiantcy in the intake and exhaust ports to move more through it.

    same question - different sbc

Interesting comments about timing...I run a 355 sbc, steel head ( DART 230's 23 degree 64 cc) 10.5 static, on alcohol with an unstripped 6-71 BDS, 7AL-3 in an 1800 lb RED. Shift is 7650 rpm, cam is .669/.637 280/290 roller. I'm new to sbc's - always ran a bbc. I run 35 degrees lead only because I was told to do by the guy who sold me the shortblock. Car run high 7' teens and plugs look like they're on the edge, but still OK...So, am I running too much lead for THIS combination? I've read the above comments about lead for the above motor - which is way more radical than mine. Does the same recommendation about 32 degrees apply to my much more tame motor?....Sure would appreciate some comments. The car runs 1.04 60 fts consistently, but doesn't seem to really pull hard when I hit high gear ( Glide). The hi-speed pill is .065 set at 62 lbs. The mph when I run in the high teens is about 179, so it's not mile-an-houring like it should.....figuring it should be 185 'ish
