What are people generally doing to shield their sensitive electronics from all of the electrical noise associated with having one or two Mag 44's onboard?

Trying to figure out ways to shield an ECU from the same effects and it occurred to me that the closest real world equivalent would be the case of Top Alcohol or Top Fuel.

Any tips or best practices would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Most manufactures of electronics used with a ProMag 44 have already learned that they have to have RF/EMI shielding. There is still a problem with using some electronics in FCs versus being used in ProMods. Some can get away with using. Racepak V300 in a FC but some cannot. Not sure who's or what ECU you are talking about. Regardless you should route wires away from sparkplug wires and especially crank trigger cables should be routed by themselves. If you are having problems then you need to utilize shielded cables that are grounded to the chassis.

Couple of years ago a buddy of mine that runs a Blown alky funny car was having corrupted info on data recorder. We took tin foil and wrapped the recorder and the corruption stopped. Might be worth a trying, not the prettiest but gives a direction on a fix.

Ron, if the recorder was sitting on rubber mounts then normally you can accomplish the same thing by grounding the box with a separate wire to the chassis

Thanks Mike & Ron. This is a Motec M800 with ACL & other stuff. Above & beyond all the usual best practices for wiring and routing and such, I was also thinking of building a metal "case" around my major electrical boxes, and then grounding that case to the frame. Do you think that's a bit overkill or not? Sort of like Ron's idea, but on a more permanent and intentional scale.

    Ground loops

    Hi,

Keep in mind that all the grounds and shields should (in a perfect world) meet at one point. The cable shields should be directed out from this common ground point. The reason for this common ground point is to avoid ground loops which can act as an antenna and pick up noise from anywhere.

The box grounding is a good first step but if possible move them as far away from the mag/spark plug wires as possible. If you look at the equations for electromagnetic fields the physical distance helps ALOT !
