Most people try to keep the converter snout runout to less than .010 when bolted up to the flywheel.

I've been fighting this on my BAE/Bruno and just noticed it has .005 clearance between the converter pilot and the locating bushing in the flywheel.

Some guys I know dial the conv. to the flywheel and then leave it bolted up, then install trans.

I'm considering making another converter pilot that fits closer to the bore.

Ive checked with the mfg and they like the .005 clearance to prevent galling.

I guess this is another example of the best parts money can buy needing work to go fast.

Leaving the converter on the flex plate is a great idea , but trying to then get the pump drive to line up sounds like hard work....

I always indicate the converter snout and find the truest position then match mark one ear of the converter and flexplate so you bolt it back in the same position .
If you think that .005" clearance is causing a runout issue , you could probably put a piece of paper (national dragster is .002")or .0015"-.002" shimstock around the pilot and check it to be sure thats causing your issue .

I did. It brought it within .008 on the first attempt. I was at .014.

Could be the snout on the converter isn't concentric with the pilot .

Do you guys run an indicator across your flywheel before you bolt up the converter ? It's probably old news now but when the Quicker Drives first came out I was running one and had a very hard time getting the converter guy to build a conveter with minimal run out , I had to stress to them that the old .030 runout will work in a chevy pump/case won't work anymore--

Aftetr that they came in good condition.
