    Hello all.

Seriously thinking of buying a big block Chevy new century block.

Want any advice please. 55mm cam or worth the $500 to go to 60mm?
Obviously to help reduce flew and twist in the cam but worth the cost.

Also. Anyone go 1.058" on this block?

    Any advice please. Very welcome.

    or email info@bennettracing.co.uk

    Thanks.

In my opinion it not worth it, plus you can find off the shelf cams with 55mm journals. I got one from Crane. R-292-5152-2S-17 SFO 55J

Off the shelve is good just wondering if strength wise it will be worth while. Weak point on a Chevy is valve train so if we can help it every way we can the better.

Any one else? Lots of views :p

    Cam

Call the cam co. and ask them the difference, we run a 60mm in BBC with .937 lifter .850 roller, 450lbs on the seat.

    55MM cam

We have been running the New Centrey blocks for over 10 years, I have had a total of 3 blocks and as of today we have never had a issue with the 55 mm cams and .904 lifter bores, or any other part of the block, the first one I got was ser# 56, and we were running it last weekend 6.13 to 6.17 e.t. blown alky R.E.D., we have never had to even line bore it, best Dam block for the Money!!! IMO and Lowell at New centrey is a real nice and fare guy to work with.

    good luck

Why not step up to a 481X? They do not have the valve train woes that the BBC encounters. As far as the cam cores are concerned the larger core will be easier on the valve train because the velocity is going to be less at the lobe because it is further away from center. Is the difference between 55mm and 60mm that big of a difference? That is something for you to discuss with your cam manufacture. If it is not that much of a difference in velocity it might be better to go with the smaller one if there is more of them out there and their availability is better.
