How much boost can a person build before actually rupturing the SFI boost disk, aka the Waterman burst panel deal?

Have got a manifold with a typical Waterman rectangular burst disk from a fuel deal, with disc and frame intact.

Want to now use the same manifold for a compound boost application. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm leaning toward blanking off the disc but then the safety factor is gone. One "oops" could mean......

    Thanks.

You would have to look up the SFI number but I can tell you it is way above any boost pressure you can make. They don't pop from boost pressure they pop from a pressure spike.

We regularly see above 60 psi with our screw blown dragster. On the turbo deal if you blow a hole on the intake you could have a "run away" situation, better make sure you have a good way to kill the fuel. If its EFI, you can just turn the electric off, if its a mechanical deal, make sure your fuel shut off doesn't leak. If its diesel its not a bad idea to have a flapper to shut off air coming into the turbo.

If I remember right back in the early 90s a guy came around the pits and showed us a test jig that he would put pressure to the panel till it blew out. 185-195 pounds. That was with steady even pressure from a regulater starting from zero.

Have ran the SFI 23.1 spec burst panel to 137 lbs boost and the burst panel didn't blow (although I will be changing it to be sure it doesn't fail some other time), but the pistons sure didn't hold up!
