One piece here Dave. Kind of a pain when walking in the staging lanes, but easy to get into car w/out coat bunching up. Tie the arms around your waist when walking around, you're good to go.

I was a 1 piece person at the beginning, but switch to a 2 piece. I won't go back. On a hot day I don't like wrapping the top around my waist, and lets be honest, WAY easier to take a piss in a 2 piece suit!;)

Just re-read that and NO, I don't piss in my suit;).

one piece all the way. less of a chance of fire getting under it. plus once you slide in you don,t have to re-adjust your suit.

I drive a front engine dragster and I had a 2 piece that I loved. I bought a new 1 piece and the first time I tried to get out of the car I knocked the windshield out because I was so restrickted. I use another guys 2 piece when ever I race now. I feel unsafe with the one piece.

I been wearing a -20, 2-piece for over 20 years, and find it very comfortable. On the jacket I had Simpson sew a tail on it. about 4-5 inches long and from one hip to the other. Just because when you are in the car your jacket pulls up a little, this way you still have all the protection that is needed.

For what it's worth I ran a FED for a few years 2005-2007 and wore a simpson sfi20 one piece the whole time and had ZERO issues with restriction. Maybe some of the cheaper and stiffer suits cause a problem but not the simpson that I wore. I did, however, race at a southern slingshot race at Rockingham and helped get a FED driver out of his car that had blown up and caught fire. When we laid him on the track his stomach had horrible burns on it to the point it looked like it had melted and run down over the top of his pants. He was wearing a two piece that had ridden up on him as he got in the car. Due to his lightweight gloves his hands were burnt as well. He also looked to be wearing a cheaper brand of helmet that the faceshield had melted and collapsed onto his face. It was bad, I still wonder how he turned out....hopefully he made a full recovery. Get a two piece.... just make sure you are fully protected.

    1 piece

In a car that requires a sfi 20 or 15 suit, I think 1 piece is the way to go.

As far as restriction goes - the only way it's going to restrict you is if you don't fit in it properly.

You will probably get out of your suit as soon as you get back to the pit, so it's not like you have a bracket car where you are going to wear your fire pants all day.

I've had both in thinner suits. I prefer 2 piece for my SFI20. Just what I like.

Two pieceif the suit is done right the overlap at the waist should be long enough to double the .protection in that area I have had fires and never had a problem with a 2 peice only burns was because of a visor coming open.Much easier with a 2 peice. Safety mfgs. would not sell a 2 peice if it was less effecive when worn properly. It's what you feel comfortable in ,my preferance is two peice double protection at the waist.

Dave, I've been very happy with my -20 RJS 2 piece. And....no games when they re-cert.

You get what you pay for.... I'd only consider Taylor/Phoenix, Simpson, or Stand21. If you look at what the fuel guys wear (and pay for) it's not Spraco or RJS. I personally prefer the 1 piece, it's a safer suit bottom line, regardless of added tails or not.

I had a custom RJS sfi-20 one piece it was very bulky and stiff, it bunched up around neck and helmet made for very poor movement, went to a SRP, Security Race Products 2 piece it was priced right and well made, great service here is their website securityrace.com worth checking them out

I just got my new 1 piece -20 suite from Design 500 for the Rockingham race and will never go back to a 2 piece. James measured me @ PRI show and it fits perfect. No restrictions at all and much more comfortable.
