Just changed Ignition system on my blown alcohol 526 from a mallory to a msd 20 and am adding the powergrid to the equation is there any other recommended add on's for that system that would be worth installing at the same time? Thanks in advance

I have never needed to change my launch limit after I leave the pits, or charnge my shift point. But all I would need to do, even without the extra box is carry my laptop with me to the staging lanes. As far as the slew rate rev limiter..... all you have to do is learn and set your timing curve to do the same thing. Say pull out 8 deg for .200 then ramp back in in a smooth curve by 1.5 then maybe pull a little out at the shift. I usually leave at full timing then wait for .100 to pull timing. That way it hits the tire hard and gets the wheel speed up before pulling time to control wheel speed. This is on a Hemi with a roots 14/71 and a powerglide, so your needs will vary. Yhe box as is will do all you need to see how you like it. If you get one of the older units the safety limit will be active until you cycle the launch button the first time, in other words when you crank the motor it will not rev past your preset limit until you activate the stage/launch button. The new units have been fixed so that the safety feature is not active until the motor see's 6000 rpm or more (I think).

    Grid tuning

Just FYI msd tech filled me in on the below that is not in the manual.

Unless you want launch retard active while on 2 step then you need to start the retard at 0.1. If you start it at 0 it will be on while on 2 step.

    usb cable

Go buy a spare usb cable. I think it's a phone charger cable...i got one at office max. If you have a cable go bad, you're screwed.

You will need to add 4-5 degrees on the crank trigger once the box is hooked up. Lets just say if you normally run 26 degrees just running straight crank trigger or six shooter, you will only see 21-22 with zero retard with the grid hooked up.

The lazy man's way is to just set the trigger high and adjust the box where u want it. Bracket type racing you may get away with that since you won't change the timing curve too much once you get it right. If you are using it in a heads up application, I like being able to use old curves that worked at a different track...and if you don't have a set trigger spot, you can't do that.

Also once a race check the timing on just the magneto to make sure your mag is phased correctly. Those things tend to move from time to time. I also like to set the mag phasing at a setting it can safely make it down the track if I had to disconnect the grid to get it to start on the line. With a six shooter you could just bypass the shooter and go straight to the trigger if it didn't start on the line (assuming the trigger was at a safe setting - not advanced). With the trigger advanced so much for the box, there is no going to the trigger - it's not going to make it to the other end with +4 timing. So we set the mag to a safe spot and in the event it doesn't fire, we just go mag to mag.
