Engine grounding question

    I have both heads grounded to chassis. I have a 7.5 amp SMV. Shoud I ground head to head and ground again to chassis? It will be a real pain to ground head to head. Am I ok with the amps I'm running or should I just run the cable the get both heads isolated?

    Basicaly I have both heads to chassis ground separatly but no ground between them.

    GOOD OR MORE GROUNDING?

    MSD recommends grounding both heads to each other the a single ground wire to the same ground lug that the coil is grounded to. If you do it like you have it and run both ground wires to the same ground lug as the coil then that should be good. You need to use a 10-12 gauge wire.

    Lets see
    we have an alum head attached to alum block with a copper gasket between them and again on the other side
    How much better do you think you can create a ground from head to head? :rolleyes:

    John, I understand what you are saying. The ground is to complete the path of electron flow (the spark) from the plug ground strap back to the coil. For some reason it can't get a good ground across the head gasket or down the studs. I have seen plugs fire weakly on just one head without the ground. Sometimes you can actually see burn marks on the copper head gasket where the spark is trying to jump if you don't have the ground wires. Joe Pando (Mr Promag at MSD) can tell tons of incidents of bad performance because of no ground wire. If you don't have a ground wire and you don't have a problem (that you know about) then you are lucky. It is a small investment in money and time to add the ground wire and prevent problems.
