I got a great deal on a 2 pc BBC pan, just under 8 inches deep and I have a new blue Moroso pump....problem?....put the base (block side of pan on and seem to be about 1/4 inch short of getting the base (bottom) of the pan on....Has anyone modified one of these Moroso pumps?...was thinking I could machine about a 1/2 inch or 5/8 off the pick-up end of the pump?....or should I just buy a shorter pump? Suggestions?? thanks

I machined the bottom of mine off for the same reason, pump still works perfect.

How deep of oil pan are you running? Any oil pressure problems on the top end?

Its a 9 or so qt pan, older Milodon. I had to machine the pump just to get the pickup off the bottom a bit.

Mine is a old Milodon also 7 3/4" deep at the rear. It runs out of oil quick on the top end. I'm going to get a Billet Fabrication split rail pan built with the same depths but kick it out more on the sides to get some more volume. I'm thinking of doing drain hoses from the head to the oil pan to see if that helps.

    Drain lines.

I installed #12 drain back lines from the back of my heads to the oil pan on each side it made a big difference. Think about it as you go down track the oil is pushed to the back of the heads to a small drain back hole, the #12 lines give the oil a short cut back to the pan it also helps eq the pressure from top to bottom. I also had a #16 from the top of the valve cover to the oil pump block off plate ( if no block off plate mount it on the side of the oil pan towards the top and front as once you launch the oil is pushed to the back) to help equalize the windage pressure from the top of the motor to the bottom. Always had good drain back and no lack of oil pressure. I ran a Jeff Johnson one piece pan and a titan billet pump. If I was to do this again I would go to #16 or #20 depending on clearance on the back of the heads as here bigger is better.
