This may be a dumb question but I've never delt with flow meters before. It came with copper rings around the fitting ends, are these for protection during shipping or do they serve some type of sealing function? They are formed perfectly to fit over the 37deg flare ends.

    THANKS

Could be as simple as to avoid galling between mating stainless steel fittings. Not really an issue when combining stainless with anodised aluminium fittings. A soft material will also correct for misalignment and scratches and other flaws of the fittings.

    Some pictures and manufacturers:

Take them and throw them over your left shoulder. Don't use them.

Mike , I wasn't going to be the first to say that , but I'll be the second ! They are real easy to get cocked on the flare and become a leak-------------they cost me a few pistons one run.
